1905 - signed first edition. ; with illustrations by charles louis hinton. Very good 8vo - over 7 3/4" - 9 3/4" tall. Signed by author. Deep green ribbed cloth, with white, green, & gilt embossed titles and decorations. Light shelfwear at crown & foot of spine. Very light rubbing to front and rear boards. Comers are rubbed through. Front hinge is tender, rear hinge is firm. Binding is tight and square. Contents in excellent condition. B & w frontis with vellum flyleaf still in place. Other illustrations throughout. Signed/inscribed by sousa on front endpaper: "miss lucy ann allen, vintage 1906. From john philip sousa. 'i ain't got them soft ways that goes with gals'. " an interesting inscription, rendered by the "march king" to miss allen, a soloist in his band. A handsome association copy, and a unique sousa collectible. |
